Meeting Louise Franklin

For the photo showing a thin woman looking upward, as we note that she is located within a stand of trees — Louise Franklin was born on the property which her parents bought and where she has lived for 75 years.  Technically, she lives within the city limits of Maitland but all of her family life centers in Eatonville.  She has worked in a garden form her youngest age and likes to see things growing.  She enjoys eating what she has cultivated.  In Ms. Franklin’s yard are flowers, fruit trees and a vegetable garden.  Some of the flowers she grows are azaleas, staghorn fern, bird-of-paradise, roses (a special treat).  Some of her fruit trees are cumquat, grapefruit, mango, orange, and tangerine; and in her vegetable garden, she grows cabbage, greens [collards, mustards, turnips], Irish potatoes, okra, red onions, squash, and sweet potatoes.
