Our Vision Statement:

To make Eatonville an internationally-recognized tourism destination of the arts and culture from throughout the African Diaspora, with special emphasis on the multidiscipline as represented in the life and work of Zora Neale Hurston.

The PEC Mission:

  • To enhance the resources of Eatonville, Florida, “the oldest incorporated African-American municipality in the United States” and the hometown of writer, folklorist, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston;
  • To educate the public about Eatonville’s historic and cultural significance; and
  • To use the community’s heritage and cultural vibrancy for its economic development

Our Core Values:

  • To build a healthy community defined as
    • good nutrition

    • good heritage and culture
    • good economic development
    • To advance the Zora Neale Hurston Legacy by presenting multidisciplinary programs in the fields which she worked: namely, folklore, literature, music, religion, theater, and the visual arts
    • To celebrate the cultural contributions of persons of African ancestry have made to the United States and to the world
    • To hold as essential elements of the organization
